I'd say great question! I really wish people read more about career prospects post BDS because I see so many young pass outs struggling to find their place. So there are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind before you actually decide what you wanna do further. Your interest:- this is primarily the most important of all the things that will be listed here. Ask yourself- why did I choose to do BDS in the first place? Is it something I like? Would I want to treat patients all my life? If the answer to any two of these three questions is a yes, you're clearly inclined towards this field. Having said that, you also must know the current situation of dentists in India. There is TOUGH COMPETITION. But then again, if this is your passion, go for an MS Yes it will take some time to set up your own clinic and it requires a decent investment as well but if you love what you do, money, success, fame, everything will follow. But remember, you are going to have to deal with difficult situations and times when you'll feel you made the wrong choice. You must never give up anyway. Your place of residence/which city would you want to set up your clinic in:- This is one of the most important factors which will come into play if you decide to do your MS According to recent statistical data, all the urban cities of our country are over saturated with dentists. However, certain small towns and rural sectors are brimming with opportunity for those who are willing to grab it. If you do plan to set up a clinic in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad or any other major city, you're going to have a real tough time. But if you look at some small towns, opportunities there are galore. Your financial needs:- Now this is one aspect where the two differ by a huge margin. Although the amount of money one has to spend on doing an MS or an MBA is pretty much the same, the returns are much faster after an MBA. Let's look ATIT this way- it takes 3 years to complete your MS let's say you get into a great government college where you're paid a stipend each month and the fees of the course is almost negligible. 3 years later, you pass out with approximately 7 Lacs in your bank account (considering the stipend you receive every month minus the expenses- government dental colleges pay their MS students around 20k a month). Now you decide to set up a clinic in one of the small towns. That would need approximately INR 13 Lakhs to INR 15 Lakhs.
