NIT do not have lateral entry system. Diploma is considered equivalent to class 12th in NIT, so you have to appear in JEE Mains to get admission in NIT. If you score good rank, then you will get admission there.

NITs and IITs do not have the lateral entry system as per my knowledge. You are required to qualify the JEE exams to get admission into these institutes.

Hello Nandeesh, This is one of the quirks of our admission process wherein a Diploma holder can join IIT but not NIT. This is so since Diploma is acceptable equivalent to class 12th by IIT's but not by NITs.

Hello Rajesh, IIT's treat diploma as equivalent to 12th standard. Hence diploma holders too can join IIT as if they have cleared 12th. By scoring minimum 75% in diploma, clearing JEE Mains & then JEE Advanced. Best wishes.
