No, you cannot join Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI) without appearing for the TMISAT entrance exam. The selection process for all programs at TMI, including B.Tech Marine Engineering, B.Sc Nautical Science, and DNS (IMU), is strictly based on the candidate's performance in the following:
- 12th PCM marks
- TMI Entrance Test (TMISAT)
- Personal Interview
- IMUCET rank (for B.Sc Nautical Science and DNS)
- Medical fitness as per DG Shipping guidelines

After the affiliation from Indian Maritime University (IMU) in 2016, TMI has made the entrance test TMISAT and IMUCET mandatory for getting enrolled in the Institute. It is necessary and mandatory to qualify these two tests along with other minimum eligibility criteria to join the Institute. Earlier, till 2015 TMI accepted the enrollment on the basis of BITSAT and interview but after the affiliation the criteria changed.
