Can I prepare for IAS exam after my 12th? I am a commerce stream student. I left maths in class 9th.

I am good in commerce, economics and English but have some problems in numerical portion.

  • Hello Anushka,
    Yes, anyone can prepare and write the civil service exams. It is not dependent on which group you have chosen in your HSC.
    Since the syllabus for IAS exams are general means only political, anyone can appear for it.
    The only condition is that you must have completed one degree it may be UG or PG (if needed). Only UG degree is also applicable.
    There will be a choice of subject in one of your exams. That will be one of your group subjects only like commerce, accountancy, etc.
  • Yes you can start preparing but also take admission in Bachelor's college as the minimum educational qualification required to take on the IAS exam is graduation. You have to have a degree from a recognised university to attempt the IAS exam conducted by the UPSC every year.
