Can I pursue engineering if I failed in a subject of intermediate?

Generally, Engineering College accept admission of students who got 50% plus marks in PCM but if you failed in one subject then admission is not possible so you have to pass the compartment exam or improvement exam so that you are eligible for engineering college.
