Can I pursue M.Tech from IITs in electrical engineering after B.Tech in Information Technology?

    No, its not possible, check out the detailed eligibility below :
    M.Tech. Electrical Engineering Eligibility
    The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing an M.Tech. (Electrical Engineering) degree is qualifying B.E. /B.Tech. In Electrical Engineering or equivalent examination. Alternatively, a candidate who has passed in the Associate Membership of the Institute of Engineers (AMIE) examination with appropriate specialisation in Electrical Engineering is also considered eligible for admission to M.Tech. (Electrical Engineering) degree course. Some of the very reputed universities and institutes conduct entrance examination to get admission

  • Yes, you can pursue B.Tech IT. You need to prepare well for entrance examinations to get into IITs. Self study or coaching class will be suitable. Since, you are going to change the field, your interest and knowledge in Electrical engineering is important.

    Yes sure. You just need to excel in GATE (EE) exam irrespective of the branch you come from. If you are deeply interested in pursuing career in Electrical, you can crack GATE easily.

    Why not but what matters is your interest. You have done B.Tech from Information Technology then my suggestion try Data Science, AI, Software engineering and others. Electrical is different from IT Sectors.

    Hi Ankur,
    I think you can pursue M.Tech from different branch but you would have to see that you give a preliminary paper in the college so that they are satisfied that you would be able to do the Masters easily. Hope it helps!
