Students at IIT Kharagpur may choose minors or electives outside the courses they take in their main branch. To be eligible, a minor must finish more than 6 courses from a different department, have a CGPA of 7.5 or more and no backlogs from their 5th semester. You need to keep your CGPA at 8.0 or higher to stay in the program. Most of these micro-specializations include about 3–4 targeted topics and require students to complete a project or paper. To do a micro-specialization, students must have scored 7.0 or higher in the CGPA and have no backlogs after their first year.
