    No, 12th marksheet is not required for UPSC if you have done Polytechnic Diploma: Students who have done a two-year course in civil, electrical, or mechanical from a Polytechnic are considered equivalent to 12th pass. Diploma is a different kind of qualification that focuses more on practical skills and training. Diploma holders are often called junior engineers in India. After doing a Diploma in civil engineering, one starts working in junior or assistant positions. Diploma in Civil Engineering programme is a three-year course. This course includes design, construction, maintenance of roads, bridges, dams, buildings, etc.
