There are several streams in engineering. if u want to pursue engineering in core subjects and interested in serving government enterprises u should opt mechanical/electrical/civil. IT sectors mostly grab IT/CSE students. ECE/AUTOMOBILE u can opt to serve communication, signalling, automobile sector

In my opinion you must follow your nip before choosing your branch for doing b.tech. I believe you have not applied for JEE. Hence i would suggest to go for some reputed private colleges. Thapar and LPU would be good in North INDIA, VIT and SRM in south.
