    Hello Gagan, The students who have completed their Diploma in engineering are given an advantage when joining engineering colleges. This is called lateral admission. Diploma holders are allowed to join at the second year of four year degree course of engineering after completion of their Diploma. Every state has its own rules and regulations of controlling and administering this. Some states use the marks obtained in Diploma to make a merit list and branch and colleges are allotted as per the merit while in some other states an entrance exam is conducted for this purpose.
