First of all, you are asked to fill in your preference list for various branches in various institutes. After that, there are a certain number of rounds (last year it was 3, I guess). You have to first do the choice filling where in you are required to fill in your preference order of the (branch + IIT) like first preference IITB CSE, second preference IITD CSE and so on.
