Can you tell me about UGC NET and JRF? What is the difference between the two? I'm pursuing M.Com right now.

National Eligibility Test is conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a gateway test in our country to start career as Lecturers or Assistant Professors in various Colleges, Universities and other Educational Institutions. This NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted twice a year i.e. in the months of June and December and the notifications are released in March and September. UGC grants Junior Research Fellowship to the NET passed out candidates who are interested in research work in various universities and colleges.

UGC NET and JRF both are conducted by the UGC and are held at the same time, in fact both have same question papers but the qualifying marks are higher for clearing JRF. These are two different ranks allocated after clearing UGC NET exam. You are eligible for this exam once you complete your Master's degree. UGC NET is for becoming eligible for the post of the lectureship, whereas, JRF is for pursuing Ph.D in respective streams. While applying for the exam, there is an option given whether to apply for UGC NET JRF or for both.
