Can you tell the book suggestions for first year programming course?

For C it is best to start with "Let us C" book as it is very easy to understand. For Java you can start with "Head First Java " or " Thinking in Java ". In programming the important thing is problem solving so after reading these books you should have to focus more on problem solving and practice of
