Before I left for UK to do MBA years, I studied some basic courses in Germand and Russian. When I went to UK, I found that there are plenty of job opportunities for people with high fluency in both English and foreign languages like French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Italian etc. Both employers were finding it very difficult to find candidates who have a high level of fluency in two or three European languages. It does not matter what part of the world you come from. Not to mention the high pay (atleast by British standards) to go alongwith it.
In India, it would be totally unfair for companies to pay pathetic salaries like (l

Thanks for tagging, Aneeket! Well I agree with what Dr Chatterjee and Mr Joshi have said. As a researcher of Linguistics, I believe knowing multiple languages does always give you an edge over others. The process of globalisation has necessitated this to a great and considerable extent. Let alone the case of career and profession, it places you in a position to interact with more number of people and helps you socialise even in unfamiliar condition. For instance, I speak almost all Indian languages and Spanish. I am never uncomfortable while traveling or visiting a place which doesn't have MY PEOPLE. Even while teaching I don't let any

With the world shrinking at a faster pace than ever, the importance of knowing a foreign languages is getting more and more obvious. However, for a specific job, APTITUDE is always essential. This is a sequal to selling objects, for which one has to sell his idea first. For that, one has to have attitude.
I fully agree to Dr.Goutam Chatterjee, when he says that the person going in for learning a language should be a good linguist. Also, the person desirous of learning a foreign language should see at his own feedback. For insntance, when I started learning Arabic , not for a foreign assignemtn or a commercial advantage--just for kicks, I

Thanks for tagging @aru and @aniket. Open economies and WTO have done wonderful job by making one cohesive planet where increased interactions among hitherto unknown countries are common practice now. This has given rise to immense opportunities of business, and jobs are wide open now. Any one with determination, hard work and intelligence can make a good carrier regardless of his education background and carrier in Foreign language is no exception. However, doing a course and being successful are two different sides of a coin. To be good in this field requires that the person should be good linguistic. Linguistic context is how meani

Thanks for tagging aneeket! A very sharp discussion topic. Let me congratulate Aru first.
Well, this is a topic which remind me of an article which mentioned an incident of a student(say X) who was among 18 students eligible for a post in a Japan based tech company. Clearing aptitude test at last 11 students made it to the final interview session. And that student (X) got the job just because he learnt german language when he was in 10th. Reason is simple more feasibility in international ventures and operations of the company.
Many firms today have vacancies for the interpreters, recently a company got a sudden notice from the head off

Well a foreign language course can be very beneficial for a person planning to make his/her career in Tourism, Aviation,Hospitality and also in Corporate sector (When it comes to maintaining International Clients).
Also the duration of such courses is very short and the fee is also not that much expensive!
