Career shifting:Graphics to Software development

I am a B-tech graduate in electrical'2005. After completing my degree I moved to the field of graphics and animation. I would like to shift from Animation to software development. What would be my convenient way to proceed? And what are the softwares to learn. ripsarkar@gmail.com
