Film editing is a post production technical part of film making. Film editors review the rough draft of a film and edit it using specialized equipment and techniques which involves extensive use of digital technology to prepare the best possible film for viewers.

Film editors
- Work closely with the director and producer during the entire process of filming
- Confer with the producer to understand the scope and nature of the project to work with ad film, documentary or feature film
- Consult the director regarding the story-line, screenplay and presentation
- Advise the best way to film the script making suggestions for the settings, backdrop and scene, and the positioning of cameras etc.
- Screen the unedited film and decide the final portions which should be clipped or redone
- Check the film value in terms of quality, relationship to other parts, and the dramatic content
- Edit the film on the computer and other devices
- Prepare the final edited film and view it for opinion with the film director to finalize the sequence and timing for the different segments of the film
- May specialise to work for news and documentary films, feature films, ad films etc.
