Sports offers several career openings. The best known are professional players of different sports such as cricket, badminton, tennis, hockey, football, table-tennis etc. and athletes pursuing different athletic disciplines . Other jobs related to sports are training and coaching, umpiring and reporting, a commentators or manufacturing of sporting goods.

Job Profile
- Train in the sport of their choice
- Practice to reach levels of competition and maintain fitness and skills in the sport
- Compete at different levels
- Represent their school, college, region, country in events aroung the state, country or at the international level
- Professional players are selected from among those who show record performance in a number of tournaments played at various levels. Selections are conducted at the institutional level, district level, regional level and the national level
- Outstanding performers represent the country at the international level
- Conduct classes to teach the skills of the sport and coach students in games and athletics
- Train students in calisthenics, gymnastics and other physical exercises to promote strength and gracefulness, or to reduce and correct bodily posture
- Organize games and tournaments and events
- Referee for games such as hockey, basketball, football etc
- Take responsibility for the maintenance of gymnasiums and sports equipment
- Supervise games in junior classes
- Select talented players and sports persons
- Instruct them in the rules, planning and precision of movements in the game

- Government recruits meritorious sports persons directly to Group 'C' and 'D' posts. If they fulfill the requisite educational qualifications. Nationalized banks, public sector undertakings and some private groups recruit outstanding sports persons.

*The Sports Authority of India has been constituted at the
National level to encourage and develop sports talent. SAI has
state level branches to organise, manage and conduct schemes
intended to promote sports facilities & talent.
SAI is also responsible for Training Coaches, for carrying out
R&D in sports & Physical Education, Sports promotion, nurturing
talent, training of athletes.
Note:Teachers, Trainers and Managers: Graduation in Physical
Education followed by Post-graduation
