No, giving CAT exam for doing MBA is not necessary but it is good if you can do it that way because there are many MBA colleges which consider the percentile you get in CAT exam. -

CAT test is taken by students who wish to pursue MBA, from various institutes in India.CAT scores are accepted by all the IIMs and other B-schools in India, Besides CAT there are other management entrance test also such as:
MAT.
SNAP.
XAT, etc.
