choosing a new career involves risk and for the last 50 years we've been a nation of risk averse people, to whom the epitome of success is a job. however, the mindset is changing and more students take risks with their courses and careers sometimes with wonderful results. Art and Design is one wonderful area which has been ignored for ages. it's time has come now.

Megha.ms92, Mehar: See ideally parents dont follow what a counsellor says or what their children will tell them. Now ehat can be done here is to introduce a blend of the teacher with the counsellor. Parents do follow their child's teacher and I know they follow the words of the teacher a lot. Whenever we conduct such sessions we should involve the class teachers to interact with the parents.
My dear Experts, you know what in Today's generation - parents are more concerned on the careers. All due to new emerging careers - you have singing, dancing, cooking coming in. Parents are more bothered that their child dont indulge in such careers

@Mehar Wadhwa, very well said.@Megha we may be interested to keep ourselves updated all the time, but its not only about updating our knowledge but making our young generation ( no offense.i am still young, but talking about those, who are just about to enter college) realize and accept that the future ahead of them is full of opportunities. Once they realize it, our young guns are good enough today to take their decisions.

@Megha.ms92 - Today we have more counselling and Counsellers than what we had at our time. A student at 10+2 is not as knowledgeable as the counselling experts are. Its high time the counsellers should open the flood gates.

@megha.ms92 , specially when a commerce student in a school is attending his board examination, they are forced to think opting for CA, ICWA, CS. While there are so many options to make new careers in Finance.
