Andhra Pradesh was formed by combining the most backward regions, consisting of different socio-economic backgrounds. The economy is primarily dependent on agriculture, which directly and indirectly employs 62 percent of the population. Andhra Pradesh has bountiful natural resources like bauxite, coal, limestone, and a number of minor minerals; water; fertile land; fertile river basins the Krishna, Godavari, and Pennar; an extensive canal system; and conducive agro-climatic conditions.
