A branch of engineering concerned primarily with the industrial application of mechanics and with the production of tools, machinery, and their products.
Mechanical engineers build things such as machines and tools that improve the conditions of life. Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when the first wheels were put to practical use by mounting them on an axle to make a cart.
