Skills without theoretical knowledge only helpful in the initial levels of the job means best for technical positions but not for higher positions where every day so many new problems are arises those cant be solved if you dont have theoretical knowledge of the field.

I think a person can be GOOD in terms of practical approach without acquiring theory, but to be EXTRAORDINARY he must have also cleared his theory part also. Theory actually enables a person to know the affect of his actions.

Agrre with you Aneeket in toto. learning theory with out knowing application is like cooking by reading the recipe without knowing the ingredients. I have personally seen thoe who have strong command in theory failing miserably when handling practical aspects of it.

Well Theory is an important part of learning, but it will be useful only when you implement the theory practically! Most of the management students study about Industrial Relations as it is mainly theory. But the main motive is to implement it practically in an organization to develop healthy relations with subordinates and peers!

Mastering in particular skill will no doubt increases the employability of a person, however we must also remember for every practical there is a theory, unless and until a person understands the theory, they cannot effectively and efficiently perform a particular skill.

The process of acquiring specific skills to perform a job better is known as training. It helps people to become qualified and proficient in doing some jobs. Learning theories are the basic materials which are usually applied in all educational and training activities. The more one understands learning theories, the better he or she will be able to make decisions and apply them to achieving the objectives. So I believe that both theory and practical exposure contributes equally towards the individual growth in any profession.
