    Yes, Stephen Hawking (an English theoretical physicist,  cosmologist, and author) attended the University of Cambridge and is one of the most celebrated alumni of the instution. At Cambridge, he pursued a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, specialising in General Relativity and Cosmology. He was the director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. In Oct 1962, he began his graduate work at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and between 1979 - 2009, he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the university.
