B.Tech is a four year UG course in which you suppose to complete all 4 year in a single college, whereas B.Tech lateral starts from 2nd year to 4th year, not from first year. B.Tech is directly done after cracking JEE Mains or Advance from an engineering college but for lateral entry, admissions happen after the completion of polytechnic Diploma.

B.Tech is the course which you complete from 1st to final year from a single college, while B.Tech lateral is the one where you complete one year from one college and the rest of the years from another college.
