<p>There are two types of scholarship according to data-</p><p>1) Scholarships given by Alumni and Industry. These are purely based on merit and the scholarship amount will be nominal (1L per year). Example, Aditya Birla Scholarships (given to three people If I remember correctly). It is a great addition to your resume if you get such a coveted scholarship., </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>2) Need based scholarships by institute. This is a fee waiver based on the income level of the parent. All students whose family income is less than 6L per annum are eligible. The amount of fee waiver depends on factors like how low the family income is and how much property the family has. The formula for calculating the fee waiver is not publicly known. It is done by Chartered accountants hired by the institute. The exact details might have changed now. (this is according to the rules for 2011-13 batch). my family income was close to 2.2L and I got a fee waiver of 6.5L for both the years. That is to say, about half the normal fees.</p>
