Your Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning scores are calculated by the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no negative marking for incorrect answer. To maximize your scores on the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures, it's best to answer every question. However, random guessing is not recommended, as the GRE is a computer-adaptive test.

Nothing is subtracted from your score for incorrect answers. Here is a bit of great news: the GRE does not penalize you for selecting an incorrect answer choice. So, if you're wondering, “Is there negative scoring in GRE tests?” the answer is no! The GRE uses a positive scoring system. There's no penalty for guessing on the GRE. Fill in an answer for every question, even if you decide to skip it. Guessing on this test is a skill in and of itself that requires practice. For instance, if you wind up reaching your minute check-in and still have no clue, make yourself write down an answer.
