Does marine engineering have good scope?

Shipping Industry is a good sector where one may build a rewarding career. It is an important sector, which is crucial for the growth and stability of the Global Economy. Shipping Industry generates a number of job opportunities. Marine Engineers are required by the Industry in large numbers. After the completion of the course and 6 months of sea service, one will be able to get the Class 4 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. After getting this certificate, one may join Merchant Navy ships as a Marine Engineer. While selecting Marine Engineering College, check whether they are approved by the Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping or not.

Marine engineering has a good scope in both Indian and international shipping companies. It is a high paying job with most of the jobs are on the basis of contracts. It is a sector specific engineering degree with little opportunities in other industries. Sometimes, marine engineering graduates are hired against mechanical engineering slots because both degrees have large similarities in the syllabus. Life is bit tough but has opportunities for international travel. Work life balance is comparatively difficult. Admission in marine engineering colleges is based on entrance examination conducted by Indian Maritime University.
