As part of the first‑year application to MSU, you are required to submit one essay.
The essay must be minimum 250 words, maximum 650 words, and you choose your prompt from a list provided by MSU (for example: a time you overcame a challenge; an activity that is meaningful to you; an accomplishment; your passions; or just a “topic of your choice”).
The essay helps MSU understand your personality, background, experiences, and what you might bring to the campus community — beyond just grades or test scores.
Letters of recommendation are not required for first‑year applications.
