Does the institute assure placement if the student passes the course with good marks?

Placement doesn't only depent on marks. Your personality, smartness, extra curriculars also play a key role. So, it is up to you, how to express yourself. Now, another point is, no university assures 100% placement. Who is sure that you will definitely get a job after you pass out?

Well, placement depends on your knowledge and skills. It does not depends on institutes or marks. If you will perform better then definitely you will get placement.and one more thing that no University will assure you 100% placement.

No, though it assures reputed companies for placements and recruitment drives for all core branches. Rest all depends on the student and the interviewer.
