Does TRAI make Telecommunications Laws?

<p><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rk:" data-state="closed">The Government of India controls telecommunications in India through the following entities:</span><br><br><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rl:" data-state="closed"><strong>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI):</strong> Central for telecom tariffs and regulatory authority of India is known as TRAI which is an independent body. </span><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rm:" data-state="closed">It holds the key role of supervising and controlling the tariffs, services and the quality of the network of the telecommunications operators. </span><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rn:" data-state="closed">It also exercises competition and consumer protection functions in the sector as the TRAI of India.</span></p><p><br><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:ro:" data-state="closed"><strong>Department of Telecommunications (DoT):</strong> DoT is a department of Ministry of Communications, Information Technology &amp; Electronics. </span><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rp:" data-state="closed">Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or commonly known as TRAI is responsible for preparing and enforcing the policies and regulations of telecommunications In India. </span><span aria-haspopup="dialog" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="radix-:rq:" data-state="closed">It also has the responsibility of the management of the government&rsquo;s spectrum resources and the issuing of licenses to telecoms players.</span></p>
