When you are talking of Indian Education System, marks are something that plays a vital role in determining our future and MBA is not an exception. At an initial stage, when companies visit the campus, they have some criteria for selection of candidates. They set a cutoff percentage to appear in the interview. But, only having good marks in your grade card won't help you in getting a job. After all it's the knowledge and the concept of the field that would be giving you the job. Yes, it does help in the final placement but 50% depends on your performance and academic score does give you some heads up in placement section process but your GK and attitude towards each and everything and your point of view for solving problem is what they look forward in placement section and your scores reflect that the amount of knowledge you are having as per your academic score. 4. Honors and Awards
5. Academic Background
6. Position of responsibilities

The most important factor is that a student sometimes may be good in practical work rather than theoretical knowledge. But majority of companies put marks as the criteria of selection.

Yes, no doubt that you need to score at least the CGPA which is required to be eligible to appear in Placement drive of the Institute. So there are different discretion of the company that what are they demanding from the candidate. Some of the companies are demanding thoroughly 70% for candidates to appear in the placement drive.
