The Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) introduced by Delhi University in 2013, has remained a controversial issue until a roll back was announced recently. Was it a mistake to launch FYUP? If yes, why? And if not, why has it being scrapped so soon?

Very well said! The FYUP could have been an interesting development in the Indian education system but somehow failed at its very first sail. But, if we look at the other side, it seems that DU wasn't prepared for such a major change in such a short period of time. DU has been a pioneer in giving BSc, B.Com, BEd, BA and other allied courses. And giving a four year technical degree was actually too much of a task; especially when nothing much was done on infrastructure and faculty! What do you think Govind_S ? Also, eagerly waiting views from Dr. Sudhiranjan Dey and Arvind Joshi245

Thanks @aneeket for inviting I do not see anything wrong in FYUP What Delhi University suggested that at the end of 3 years., students have exit options and 4th year will be additional research degree. Today, most of the developed countries accept only 4 years degree then why we should not accept it? the 4 years degree would have been come as a great help for those who want to opt higher education or job abroad. Out of 800+ universities only handful are able to provide quality education. UGC as well as ministry of HRD are full with incompetent people AICTE has jurisdiction over engineering programme not the UGC then why UGC is unnecessaril

UGC as well as ministry of HRD are full with incompetent people AICTE has jurisdiction over engineering programme not the UGC then why UGC is unnecessarily commenting and interfering for engineering programme? Further, UGC's role is to maintain minimum standard in the institutes and qualification. UGC's minimum standard for awarding first degree says that "a degree should not be less than 3 years duration" it does not say the maximum duration. If you look at B.sc. Agriculture courses, it is 4 years and 5 years duration all over the country. Similarly, a BSL LLB is a 5 years , B. pharm is a 4 years degree course, BDS is a 5 year degree course, MBBS BHMS, BUMS, BAMS, BNYS etc are 5 1/2 years degree courses Then how can UGC ask to lower the duration when it does not have authority to do so? It is more matter related to ego, incompetent UGC etc. Delhi University ranks no.1 in India and at least it is amongst top 10 universities in India. Its VC ha to finally give up as he may not wanted to loose his job against his bosses at ministry of hRD. Such political interference is not good. Rather ministry of HRD should have focussed on th degree scam of almost 40+ private universities, promoting ODL system and quality of higher education
