India produces almost 1.5 million engineers every year. Last nine years show that the entry level salary is very low for engineers. Most of the engineers don't have the required skill sets, they just happened to do engineering maybe because of pressure or as an unsure move. However, engineering is a technical degree, if you sit for government services you might be preferred or may have a specific quotas. There is always something positive in every aspect, one should never give up. Maybe, they didn't become a successful engineer, but it doesn't mean they can't become a successful person in the long run.

Success have different meaning for every body. Concerning engineers, it may mean to be get placed in their final semester. It is nearly 15 to 20 percent of all engineering graduates who got placed every year.

Succeeding has nothing to do with education. Anyone can be successful by doing anything. Coming to placements, only 15 - 25% are placed.
