For admission in advanced music courses at AAFT like M.A., a graduation in music is usually needed. Alankar Visharad is an added advantage but not a strict requirement.

In 2017, there's a great value in pursuing Visharad as after doing it you can directly apply for MA (Music) & then there's no need to do BA (Music) 3 Years course or 1 Year BA Music programme. Yes, it can be called a degree. I am myself pursuing Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet from Gandharva Mahavidhya
