For gate preparations coaching is better or self study is?

Getting coached from an outside agency is not a must, but it helps in clarifying the doubts timely and also helps in making a good schedule for the studies. It provides you an opportunity to discuss the study material with other students which helps a lot. However, if you are confident yourself and already have a study group then you need not opt for coaching. But even them I would suggest to procure study material from a reputed coaching institite.

1) Time management is the key to success, when you are preparing for gate.Gate preparation comprises of two steps concept learning and problem solving. Make sure you give time to both the steps. 2)Another thing is time , if it takes time to solve a question, then you are solving it the wrong way, the only constraint in gate paper is the 3 hours time limit. Make sure you always solve question within a limited time while practicing mcqs. 3)Use an casio es calculator and not ms one. you can find an inverse, adjoint, correlation, matrix^(n) (used in caley hamilton.), vector cross product, there are several constants values given,permutation and combination,etc. 4)Sit and study everyday. make short notes , revise them continously, most of the junta in nov-december forget about what they have learned in may-june. first month : prepare two subjects . second month : prepare one subject and revise the previous two. third month : prepare one subject and revise the other three .and so on 5) While studying a chapter, do ask yourself following questions "What", "How", and "Why" and see improvement. Try to create your own question while preparing any topic. 6)Analyze your score in model test papers and compare your performance periodically to see how you improve. 7) Always use standard books.prefer group study.discuss your doubts with teachers ,classmates and seniors, never leave your doubts unattended. 8) Don't waste even a single minute because every minute counts. study daily, even if you have 15 minutes spare , dedicate it to mugging up some formulas or solving mcqs. 9)Always keep a formula paper or mcq sheet in your purse. (this is the best small hack while preparing for gate). 10)Never stop preparing after gate. because most of the psu exams are conducted between march to july. 11) Don't waste your time writing assignments and lab copies. Give less time to unproductive things. 12) Always pay attention while reading the questions, pay attention to words like "or" , "not", "none", "none of these" , "wrong" . Sometimes you tend to mistakes even if you know the answers. All the best !!
