Hello Neel, seeing your academics I can definitely say that you can do your Ph.D. in genetics. But if I may ask, what is your understanding of genetic engineering? Actually one does research in one selected topic, for this only criteria is post graduation. It could be in any subject. These days a student has to clear Ph.D. entrance examination, then approach guide and decide with guide the topic of research. Best wishes to you.

A genetic engineer can work in both private and public sectors. Genetic engineering graduates are required in government as well as private organizations. With the increasing number of biotech firms in India, the future scope in genetic engineering is good. The graduates of this field can also opt teaching as a career.

I think the field will require further studies too, to make a successful career, if you are prepared for long haul; in studies till doctorate level, go ahead.
