    Cmon guys, IME never did or never will apply to aicte for recognition as distance engg is not recognised by aicte. dont believe me? refer AMIE website where aicte/dec clearly stated in their letters to AMIE that their approval is not required in case of any associate membership exams. These exams from AMIE,IME, IIIE, ICE(I), indian institute of metals etc need to be approved by MHRD which is head of aicte/dec. Institutions exams need to be approved by MHRD, GATE, UPSC, IITs which all of the above institutes have. So IME or AMIE applying to AICTE is absolutely out of context and pure rumour.     Hi Abhay,
    The institute of Mechanical Engineers, Mumbai offers AICTE approved courses, but the institute is not a University affiliated program and because of which there is no UGC approvals required by this institute.

    nope its not approved. yes it offers courses of AICTE but its not approved and its not needed also as they dont affilate any universitites or institutes

    I have doubt because as per web site AICTE has rcommended for approval but it is not clear or there is no notificaton under which AICTE has approved it. It is better to contact AICTE.

    Section A & B of associate membership course conducted by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (India), Mumbai is recognized as equivalent to Degree in Mechanical Engineering by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India), Department of Higher Education.     Institute of Mechanical Engineers (India) Mumbai has got the recognition vide MHRD Notification No.F.23-2/2001-TS-III New Delhi the 24th November, 2006, but in the light of MHRD Notification No. 44 dated New Delhi the 1st March 1995 regarding mandatory approval from the Distance Education Council, Indra Gandhi Open University now Distance Education Bureau UGC, Institute of Mechanical Engineers (India) Mumbai can not award any engineering degrees through distance education mode.
