MBA and PGDM courses are equally VALID. Though both MBA as well as PGDM requires approval from UGC and AICTE respectively, PG Diploma is run on non-affiliation mode, through self-financing and self designed course. Whereas, MBA program follows the course curriculum of a particular University and it has to be affiliated under the university. Institute offers PG Diploma has flexibility and focused on contemporary learning. Students rather prefer PGDBM program because of global and market oriented academics.

There are various permutation and combination one has to keep in mind while selecting an Institute. few of the things one should keep in mind are First and foremost the recognition of the Institute (the institute must be recognized by UGC or AICTE), Secondly, the course curriculum and the study material, the infrastructure, the faculty(their educational background), the placement, last but not least Institutes reputation in the job market for which you should visit the institute and try and talk to the current batch students and get few of the alumnae contacts as well.

In MBA the syllabus is given by one particular university which is not a latest syllabus whereas in PGDBM/PGDM the syllabus is made by that particular institute itself and the portion is comparatively new which helps us to know the latest happenings in the business field.
PGDM is much preferred over MBA when we do it from best B-Schools in India since IIM's offers these courses whereas if you do it from non reputed institute its useless to do PGDM from there then to do an MBA from there. -
I think better one should opt for MBA as that would even be valid for higher studies like PhD

Let me share my thoughts on this issue which is a question in as much demand as hot cakes.
MBA and PGDM are both management courses yet the only difference is the approach to its curriculum. MBA give more focus to the syllabus framed by the university and no change is bought in for years. As for PGDM the focus is more on the current industrial demands and requirements. The curriculum of PGDM gets slightly changed every year. The flexibility provided by PGDM is the key success factor of the course. MBA only provides degree to institutes associated to a university, while PGDM is not affiliated to any university and has its own syllabus. M...more -
Well many students feel this way that both MBA and PGD in management are the same, even though there is a lot of difference between the two courses. The difference is not just in the duration of the course but differs considering from where one pursues the course and also the future interests of the candidate.
