Have the new IITs diluted the IIT brandname?

That is a very good question I must say. First of all, I don't think the new IITs have diluted the IIT brand name. It's just that people are always apprehensive of something new. Past data helps us to confirm, or I must say, take a calculated risk for important decisions in life. Choosing a college is one of the most crucial decisions and being scared of choosing wrong is intelligence! The old IITs have a brand name because they have a good record. And mostly, people see placements while evaluating a college. After placements, come faculty and infra. Then we see the peer network. The old IITs are very well known among the top companies and industries and are trusted by them to be a bank of good quality human resources. Why? Because it is only after cracking a series of toughest examinations of the nation, that students get accepted into these premium colleges. So, the brain quality is guaranteed. There are a number of other factors too, but let's concentrate on the most prevalent one. Now coming to what can be done. Having a brand name depends a lot on the quality of students of that college. There are a number of colleges like BITS Pilani, IIITs, Thapar, DTU and others that are not IITs but still have a very good brand name. By enhancing the knowledge, skills, and personalities of the students, the college can invest into them as their brand ambassadors who will enhance the college brand image wherever they go. This can be done by providing them with good infra (classes and labs), practical based curriculum, flexibility to take up new and challenging projects, and most importantly support from good quality "unrigid" professors and administration.

Any institution whether it is a government or a private institute cannot become prestigious and top institution within a year of its establishment. Also, new IITs have their own identity and cannot be measured with the old IITs. they are not taking as much time as the time that had been taken by the old IITs to evolve into a heritage place for engineering students. The craze for the old IITs is the same as it was before but it's increasing for the new IITs because the curriculum, syllabus and management is just as same as that in the previous IIT but accompanied with a newly developed modern infrastructure. Also, with the increasing number of IITs, the fundings, as well as the facilities provided by the government, has increased so one cannot say that it has diluted the remarkable achievements of the previous IITs. I think it has not. New IITs are developing and gaining progress as they are also involved in making quality students. The IITs with their name itself, you can't say it is good or bad. To come up with the old IITs, research is the most important thing that those IITians should do during their curriculum. The educational qualifications of the professors in IITs matter more when they are teaching in such prominent institutions. Thus, these professionals must be in parity with the professors of old IITs because they are only capable of producing students of higher knowledge and deep research interest. The need of students having deep research interests is really more nowadays. The one thing they can do to equal the importance of all IITs, they can migrate the quality professors from old ones to new ones so that it will help the students in new IITs. The activities took place in old IITs from recent years should be followed by new IITs. Thus, faculties and students relation is a major factor for progressing and development of education of new IITs. Placements can never be doubtful in any of the IITs. They are plentiful.
