That is a very good question I must say. First of all, I don't think the new IITs have diluted the IIT brand name. It's just that people are always apprehensive of something new. Past data helps us to confirm, or I must say, take a calculated risk for important decisions in life. Choosing a college is one of the most crucial decisions and being scared of choosing wrong is intelligence!
The old IITs have a brand name because they have a good record. And mostly, people see placements while evaluating a college. After placements, come faculty and infra. Then we see the peer network. The old IITs are very well known among the top companies...more -
Any institution whether it is a government or a private institute cannot become prestigious and top institution within a year of its establishment. Also, new IITs have their own identity and cannot be measured with the old IITs. they are not taking as much time as the time that had been taken by the old IITs to evolve into a heritage place for engineering students. The craze for the old IITs is the same as it was before but it's increasing for the new IITs because the curriculum, syllabus and management is just as same as that in the previous IIT but accompanied with a newly developed modern infrastructure. I think it has not. New IITs are developing and gaining progress as they are also involved in making quality students. The IITs with their name itself, you can't say it is good or bad.
To come up with the old IITs, research is the most important thing that those IITians should do during their curriculum. The educational qualifications of the professors in IITs matter more when they are teaching in such prominent institutions.
