CAT score is valid only for 1 year, so you can start preparing CAT in your 3rd year of b.tech(join a coaching ). Appear in exam in your 4th year and then take admission in the same year. The good part is you are very clear about your career. -

self preparation you should start from now onwards but if you want to join coaching institute it is better to join during your final year around 6 semester. keep studying English aptitude reasoning from now onwards. -

You should start the preparation of CAT examination with the beginning of 5th semester and in this way you will have 1 year for preparation because you will appear in examination when you will be in 7th semester last and get admission after 8th semester
