There are levels of exams. If you want to get admission to premier engineering colleges like IITs and NITs then you will have to write JEE Mains and JEE Advanced for which you can start preparation after the 10th. When you complete your intermediate with all subjects clear then you apply to the EMCET exam in that exam you have to qualify with minimum criteria if your qualify for the exam then you are applying to the college of your interest.

When you passed 12th from Science side, then you have to give JEE Mains exam, after that you can apply for admission for engineering or after Diploma, you have to give LEET exam then you can also apply.
