Alcohols are classified based on the number of alkyl groups attached to the carbon bonded to the –OH group:
Primary (1°) alcohols has only one alkyl group attached (e.g., Methanol, Ethanol).
Secondary (2°) alcohols has Two alkyl groups attached (e.g., Isopropanol).
Tertiary (3°) alcohols has Three alkyl groups attached (e.g., Tert-butanol).
