How are exams held for Masters in Canada?

Like you all know, in India, exams are generally fully based on memorisation. Those who are quickly able to mug up could achieve high score. Mostly students are under burden of books. Is it the same for Canada? I'm very eager to know about this.

    Dear Bhargav,
    Examination format is entirely different in Canada and most foreign countries. While an examination which may be either objective or descriptive is an important factor its noteworthy to mention that it's not the only important factor. Programs are mostly experiential learning comprising projects, research work, thesis, coursework or assignments, graduate seminars, etc. No mugging up nor plagiarism is allowed. Research is an important factor and also the submission of coursework within the specific deadline is mandatory.
