SRM Valliammai Engineering College is merit based first you have to score 70 percent in class 12, then you have to score good marks in entrance exams depending upon the difficulty level of entrance exam and how students perform in the entrance exam and total number of seats on which admission is taken, then cut off is decided generally the cut off is higher for first round of counselling but if seats get vacant or student left seat after admission then cut off will be reduced for second or third round of counselling.

SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai’s admission process is merit based. For undergraduate courses like BE or B.Tech. the merit is based only on the basis of class 12th examination scores and cut- off is determined by the number of participating students and their scores. For post graduate courses like ME, M.Tech. or MBA, the merit is determined by the marks scored by the candidate in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET). The final cut- off list is released after evaluating candidates’ performance in the entrance test plus their aggregate marks in graduation.
