The Aerospace Engineering Department of IIT-Kharagpur was founded in 1965 as the Department of Aeronautical Engineering and renamed as the Department of Aerospace Engineering in 1988. Since its birth, the department is engaged in providing education in various aspects of aircraft and space technology. It offers B.Tech, dual degree and M. Tech programs in Aerospace Engineering. The department also has excellent computational laboratories equipped with high-performance computational facilities. It also offers adequate facilities to the students to design, build and fly remotely controlled/auto-controlled model aircraft including UAVs and MAV. So, such kind of curriculum makes the students capable of high-profile jobs. The placement percentage is about 67%. It is not one of the core branches, still, the average package is around 6 LPA in the core sector. There are higher paying jobs in software and IT sector. The choice is yours.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has really great placements in the field of aerospace engineering. Also, there are a lot many options open for an aerospace engineer after completing your undergraduate from IIT, Kharagpur. Lot many companies like Airbus, Boeing, GE, ISRO, DRDO, HAL, show up during the basement season of the college who would hire you for a minimum of a package of Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs. One can consider applying for scientist post/Quick Hire Scheme Fellow in CSIR-NAL (But they have a minimum requirement of M.Tech). If you happened to have a high CGPA you can get a job in almost any field including the IT sector which comes to IIT looking for analyst, trading, banking, coding all they want is a little knowledge and the respective sector Also, a few manage to get positions at ISRO and other PSU but there look for good scores in GATE examination and an extraordinary profile.
