Well, I am from the mechanical branch (DTU) but I can relate to this question in a much better way and will try to give you more insights.
To be honest, this branch is not doing much good at DTU. Talking about the placements, it is not very good.
DTU MAM is a new branch, (say) subpart of mechanical engineering. Placements are similar to that of mechanical, though it has not yet gained such respect. Though, it is having a similar kind of placement like the core mechanical stream and similar course outline with that of mechanical.

DTU is one of the reputed engineering colleges in India. Every year lakhs of students try getting admission here. According to the National Institute Ranking Framework, Delhi Technological University was ranked 39th in India and around 3rd in Delhi.
DTU is well known among recruiters and provides decent placements to its students. Last time total 47 offers were made in total for Automobile students. The exact placement stats aren't released by DTU publicly.

Initially when the branch was just automobile engineering,students did face difficulties while sitting for companies but renaming of the branch has to an extent made it possible for automotive students to compete with mechanical students
The average is again between 58 L.P.A(roughly)[This is the case for a core company pretty much anywhere in any premium college]
Most of the companies coming for Non Technical Profiles(like business analysts,supply chain management etc.) are also open for this branch and they offer packages in the range of 810 L.P.A[Includes top notch consultancies like Bain,Deloitte etc.]

The placement of automobile engineering in DTU was not doing much good. But still, don't loose your confidence. If you are interested in doing B.Tech from DTU then you can obviously do it as it is developing eventually.
Previously, it was not doing well but now it is developing its bounds and emerging to be good. But now it is doing well.
I think the Delhi College has automotive engineering and its campus placement of graduating students of erstwhile DTU has always been very high.
