How are the placements of B.Tech in Bio-Technology from IIT, Roorkee?

Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee is one of the best government colleges in India and it ranks in top 5 colleges of India. Placements of B.Tech in biotechnology from IIT-Roorkee is very good as many of the core companies related to biotechnology comes to the placements. Biotechnology department in IIT-Roorkee is known for its research in the various field and it publishes research paper every year. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary branch of science which is favorite among youngsters as it is providing ample opportunities for those who want to explore the new and advanced frontiers of science. It does not refer to a specific industry or job. The applications of Biotechnology is broad as it feeds to various industrial sectors like food, textiles, pharmaceutical, agriculture, animal husbandry and more. Biotechnology includes several subjects apart from biology making it interdisciplinary. Along with the scientific part and engineering applications, biotechnology is giving rise to various new fields with humongous job opportunities. Being honest, let me tell you, the placements from biotechnology are not that good when compared to other branches. Biotechnology is the future, it is still developing whereas other branches are centuries old and well established. But if you are up for it, go for it. And IIT Roorkee is one of the best IITs. There is no scope of mediocrity here, the institute invites the best players from the industrial world to get their students placed. Around 76% students get placed from the batch. The average package is about 6 lac per annum. But don't worry, it increases o0nce you in the room. If you are looking for more money, then go for non-core jobs.

Biotechnology branch in India is progressing at a really slow rate due to the lack of investment in the field, costly lab inputs and the scarcity of core companies in India in the particular field. Although being in IIT does not save you from the above-mentioned problem but it does help you a lot by placing you in some or the other IT company, marketing firm, banking job with an average placement of Rs 8 lakh or Rs 4 lakhs even if you don't end up in a core company. Placement report in 2017 of IIT, Roorkee in the branch of biotechnology is as follows: the average placement offered to the students was Rs 7.8 lakhs while the highest package given to a student was Rs 17 lakhs. IIT, Roorkee do manage to attract one or two core companies but the intake is such companies is one or two at maximum. If you want to remain in biotechnology field you must consider doing a masters program in the same college or the college you wish to go for. Hope this helps. Cheers

Hello, first of all, you must know that Bio Technology branch is a more research oriented branch. If you are really interested in the field after a B.Tech degree, you can find jobs in pharmaceutical companies, research labs, and institutions in India. However, most Indian students tend to go abroad to pursue their masters or doctorate studies in biotechnology and allied fields. Talking about on-campus placements, since the number of job openings is very less in biotechnology, the number of companies coming for placements will be very less. But job market for biotechnology is not as well developed in India as other countries. So, if you want to get better placement, it is better you apply for companies that have offices and research centers abroad. However, the list of companies that come to recruit students includes Tier 1 and Tier 2 companies like Biocon, IFGL Bioceramics Limited, Orbees medical, Invitrogen, GlaxoSmithKline, Reliance life sciences, CTS life sciences, Dr.Reddys labs, Cipla, Jubilant life sciences, Wockhardt, Torrent pharma, Cadila Healthcare and Ranbaxy. The average package ranges from Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs per annum. The percentage of batch placed in core jobs is a little less. Biotechnology is though relatively a new branch and finding its scope to get implemented as much as it can. Though the widespread application is very large and the great fusion of biology and technology is serving to many people hence seeking global earnings. When it comes to placements IIT, Roorkee gets a decent but improvable stats. The average placement in the respective branch is Rs 8 lakhs and the highest is around Rs 20 lakhs. Most of the students go for further studies to absorb the knowledge as much as one can and become capable of proving its existence through immense knowledge. The biotechnology leading to a development of a modern and advance culture as predicted by critics and hence has a large scope to earn money and respect. Hey there, The biotechnology department being newly built has high-end technology which caters for all your needs related to research. The Department of Biotechnology is already one of the best engineering biology departments in India. The faculty here always promotes research and helps the students to excel in various fields be it genetic engineering or cell culture. Biotechnology students also get the maximum chances to get an internship abroad which is always a great thumbs-up. Apart from getting a job after 4 years, IIT-R gives you plenty of resources to crack exams like CAT, Civil Services, etc., and being in Biotechnology student you get quite a good amount of time to prepare for these. In India, biotechnology doesn't have a good scope. Outside India, the scope in biotechnology is immensely high. Other countries (read developed) are putting good resources to carry out research projects. Well, placements in IIT-Roorkee biotechnology branch are very good. According to 2015-2016 placement reports: 38 Students from Biotechnology registered for the placements of which 27 were placed. The average package is about 8-10 LPA offered by pharmaceutical companies. Biotech has a greater average in terms of placements packages than Civil Engineering at IIT-R. Mostly, these students were placed in Analytics, Consulting, IT and E-commerce firms. I hope this helps you.
