How are the placements of B.Tech in Biotechnology from VIT University, Vellore?

VIT University, Vellore is one of the best private colleges in India and it is ranked in top 10 on the list of private colleges of India. It has many courses to offer out of which Biotechnology is one of the course. VIT University is known for its great infrastructure, knowledgeable faculty. Facilities provided by them are the sports complex, Hospital, etc. There are many companies that come for the placement in Vellore Institute of Technology for biotechnology and they are as follows: Accenture, Amazon, Ashok Leyland, Bank of America, Blue Star, Capital IQ, Cisco Systems, Cognizant, Deloitte, eBay, Ericsson India, Ford Motors, Godrej, Google, Honeywell, HP, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle. Most of the students from biotechnology branch do not get jobs in core companies but get a job with an average salary in mass recruiters companies like TCS, Accenture, etc. The average salary of biotechnology student is about 3 to 4 LPA. Highest salary of biotechnology graduate is about 16 LPA. Hope it helps.

I would not recommend you to take up biotechnology in any of the private colleges in India, as there is a much larger possibility that you might land up in any of the IT companies due to the dearth of core biotechnology companies in India in comparison to the opportunities abroad. VIT, as any other private university fails to comply with the same. The number of core biotech companies visiting the campus during the placement season is so meager that they only take a handful of 3 - 4 students. Rest of the students end up taking jobs at mass recruiters like PCS, Wipro and many others. The only way that you can increase your prospects after completing your biotechnology from one of his private institutions is by pursuing Masters from abroad. That being said you can expect an average placement package of 3.5 to 4 lacs with the highest package being 7 lacs. Displacement is all that you are seeking for then be assured that you will not end up without a job in VIT. I hope this answers your question.

1. The labs are well equipped. 2. Not only teachers but also lab assistants are very knowledgeable and supportive. 3. You will be welcomed by faculties if you have a very good research proposition. 4. As for placements, the scenario has improved a lot compared to the last years. Quite a few pharma companies turned up. 5. You can get into the environmental section of non-core companies which offer a pay higher than IT companies. 6. As for teachers, there are two sides to every coin so just get hold of a senior and you will get the teacher of your choice. About placements - Biotechnology placements are very few. Most of the biotech graduates go for IT field. There is a reason for it. Look at placements at VIT university, you will find companies like Accenture, Wipro, TCS hiring people in hundreds. Biotech companies hire in single digits among hundreds of applicants. All the lab skills, science subjects you studied may not really help you to earn money after graduation. Few people will make it among hundreds to the core companies. But if you are ultimately going into IT companies, what is the use of studying biotech.

Hello, Biotechnology is simply technology based on biology. Biotechnology harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help in improving our lives. VIT University is one of the universities that offer an undergraduate course in biotechnology through its SBST School of Bio-Science and Technology. It has a well-equipped lab infrastructure and also good faculty. Coming to the placements, there are many opportunities in the IT sector only. As biotechnology is more of a research-oriented field, the jobs available on campus will be low and we cannot expect any of the colleges to provide placement for such research oriented field. Though there will be some companies related to this course, if you want a campus placement then it is IT only. VIT provides you with the better foundation for higher studies in India as well as abroad so that you can engage yourself more in the research and also begin your career in biotechnology.
