How are the placements of B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur?

Chemical engineering, unfortunately, sees swings every year with an average of 80% ratio of students getting placed. Top quality recruitment companies include. Hindustan Zinc Limited, Sun Pharma, Hutti Gold Mines Limited, Indian Rare Earths Limited, Biocon, OIL Limited, MSPL Limited, Glenmark, Dr.Reddy, National Aluminium Company, Fertilizer startups, Nuziveedu seeds, etc. These cover different areas like petroleum refining, Plant Process distillation, fertilizer technology, processing of food and drugs and agricultural products management, paints and dyes; recycling metals and refurbishing, glass and plastics; cosmetics, and mineral based industries for fractioning and cracking based roles. Average package stands at 6 LPA and maximum is at 15 LPA for chemical engineering specialization. However, past year the team for placements has been increased and should see more top companies participating for 2017-18. The department was established in 1951. At present, the department is very much involved in activities in the field of Pollution Control, Transport Processes, Coal and Petroleum Technology, and Membrane Processes. The department has always been engaged in research sponsored by notable organizations like L&T, SAIL, TISCO, ONGC, BHEL, IOC, CMPDE, etc. Good tie-ups are helpful when it comes to internships and placements. IIT Kharagpur being one of the best engineering colleges of the country invites many big names as recruiters. To name a few: Hindustan Zinc Limited, Hutti Gold Mines Limited, Indian Rare Earths Limited, Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd, OIL Limited, MSPL Limited, National Aluminium Company etc. These cover different areas like petroleum refining, fertilizer technology, processing of food and agricultural products, paints and dyes; recycling metals, glass and plastics; cosmetics, and mineral based industries. So, there are good jobs in the area. About 74% students got placed in 2016-17.

Based on the past records, it's evident that those who have maintained their academic CGPA above 7.5 in any of the disciplines and participated in various extracurricular activities at IIT-Kharagpur, out of them almost 98% students have been successful in getting the placement of their choice.
