If you have a keen interest in chemistry and you are thinking that Chemical Engineering is all about chemistry then you can be wrong. Chemical Engineering is not all about chemistry, it is something like an amalgam of chemistry and applied physics and other things. So, first, research and choose your branch wisely. Now coming to the question, IIT-Kanpur is one of the best colleges in our country and it is not advisable to lose any seat in the prestigious institute. Some of the recruiters are:
    Reliance Industries Ltd.
    Essar Oil Limited.
Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corp. Ltd.

IIT, Roorkee though is not the best IIT but is best for the chemical department after IIT, Madras. When it comes to placements the average placements here is around Rs 10 lakhs and believe me one can easily get more if he works hard constantly.
The highest package may reach to Rs 20 lakhs and more depending on the need of the company.
The most you work hard the more he/she has chances of getting placed in a very good company or can even get global placement.
The chemical science branch is growing rapidly and building new career options for fresh aspirants.
